Dark Opal basil (Ocimum basilicum 'Dark Opal') is a popular, ornamental variety of sweet basil known for its deep purple, crinkled leaves and spicy, clove-like flavor, making it excellent for culinary use in salads, pestos, and vinegars, as well as for adding color to gardens and bouquets. This annual herb grows in a bushy, upright habit, thrives in full sun, and is easy to grow, though it should be harvested regularly and pinched back to encourage bushier growth and prevent flowering.
